Marketing. What we know and what we didn’t!

What is Marketing? Where does it start? Why is it an important aspect of any business?

We all do have our own explanations for it as someone asks for it, we intend to give a simple explanation to it so that it would be understood.

However, what does it exactly mean?

How do we exactly put it into action?

Here I’m going to speak exactly about it and in a simple way.

Think that you have a product and a good business out of it but the sale is restricted to certain areas.

And you want to expand your business and this is where the marketing steps in.

There is ’n’ number of marketing options out there but they need to be used in the right way in order to reach the right audience.

Let’s get into it.

Marketing fundamentals — Where does it start?

Are you a commerce graduate?

If you are a commerce student you would have a topic of Economics where you would learn about the consumers.

That’s fine if you haven’t had economics. Let me tell you!

I was in an Economics class. Our teacher was taking up this class about how a human needs. There is an image where it says all about how it works.

One of the chapters says that human needs are endless.

Once the basic needs of humans are satisfied he jumps he moves on with the next need that he wants.

Now here is where we need to give closer attention to which is Human needs.

Marketing is all about understanding the needs of the customer/consumer. It begins even before the product exists and once the need of the consumer is known a product has to be made in order to get into the world of business/market.

For an instance look at how Apple got its market in the world of smartphones.

Before Apple, the leading brands in phones were mostly Blackberry, Nokia, Samsung, LG, and so on and most of these phones had keypads in them.

Now, what Apple does?

Apple saw a need to introduce a human need to have a phone called it iPhone without any keys in them. (Watch here)

Ahh! Such a unique name to it.

It was a huge success. They were in huge demand. Rest is history!

In the current world, we see a number of mobile phone companies out there.

Isn’t that right? We often find it really hard to make a choice which one to go with.

Trust me I have been in that situation :)

But we do still see Apple as one of the leading smartphone companies in the whole world with its breath-taking features included in them. (Read here)

Man! I love the camera and its videography feature. Selena Gomez shot an entire music video on its latest phone Iphone11 pro.

I bet you love it too!!!!! And I bet a lot of people around the world have a lot of trust in their products.

Now I have put this as a word of mouth and we would find so many like me saying the same thing which gives more attention to any brand.

They also started getting budget-friendly phones as the market had these so-called “Budget Friendly” phones in the market.

In an adminicle to this, they introduced this.

Again I say this it is all about experimenting with things as said earlier it is a science, not creativity.

Whether you/I/we fail comes secondary.

If you as a brand leading the market you would not worry about failing as you are already a leading company and continue to provide good service to the existing customers to make sure that you do not lose them.

Apple has been releasing new software updates and application updates to keep their customers engaged with them.

You may wonder what as they already have almost all features included in their software and applications?

AGAIN, it’s all about experimentation

Digital Marketing vs. Traditional marketing.

Marketing has been done for a very long time as it was needed since the beginning.

You know what marketing is now. But did you know that there are different kinds of it?

That’s right.
There is Digital and traditional marketing.

But what makes it different?

It is simple. Traditional marketing is done offline.

Like newspapers, radio, TV, billboards, posters, or you might have seen those ads where they keep talking about a product like hip belts to lose fat all those kinds of ads.

You must have found it funny as well. Isn’t that right?

But do they have any differences? I would say yes but just a medium of showing it to the world is different.

Traditional marketing still plays an important role in people’s lives with the ever-growing need to step out of the digital world.

The immersive experience of an impactful TV commercial and the tactile nature of a copy of Rolling Stone magazine are as important today as they were 20 years ago because of their lasting effects on your memory.

There are many examples like Fair & lovely, Yes of course the name has been changed now.

But Digital marketing also has more impact. They both have the same kind of impact that is shown in the right way, right time, and to the right audience.

But how do we get these audiences into your funnel?

Funnel? It is a way of breaking down the customer journey all the way from the “awareness” stage (when they first learn about your business) to the “purchase” stage (when they’re ready to buy your product or service).

It is simple, first, you need to get the attention of the customer.

Oh, wait! Let me make it easier for you

CATT

C -Content

A -Attention

T - Trust

T - Transaction

Source: DigitalDeepak.com

The formula is given by Digital Deepak Wealth = n ^ CATT where ’n’ points out the problem or the product or niche you choose.

It is clearly understood from the above abbreviations that content is the main aspect.

You can take the example of Digital Deepak. The content is well written, you will get hooked right away and you would feel like you want to enroll or go buy his products.

It is very much understandable that the products are going to be good. That grabs your attention and makes you enroll in his email list which points out the second step in the marketing funnel.

Getting the attention of the reader or customer.

Again you can take an example of Digital Deepak. You are interested in Digital marketing and want to continue with digital marketing. You are looking for something and you get everything from Digital Deepak as he keeps sending you a series of his free courses where he explains everything that you need to establish your website.

It is very difficult to trust a product where there are no good reviews about a product. What do you do?
You go look it up on Google. Try their free products.

Once you are satisfied you go ahead and purchase the product.

To be honest the same happened to me. I was looking for a perfect digital marketing course and I would say I loved the way Digital Deepak offers it. I got enrolled right away by watching the live webinar.

I would say the CATT happened with me as well. That was with Digital Deepak.

Integrated Digital Marketing

By integrating you know it is linked to each other or co-ordinated.

There are various types of methods in Digital marketing.

Some of them are;

  1. Search Engine Marketing
  2. Search Engine Optimization
  3. Email Marketing
  4. Social Media Marketing
  5. Digital Display Marketing
  6. Content Marketing

So is it important to learn all the aspects thoroughly? I would say no.

As mentioned earlier, these are all interconnected. One works for another.

Take an example.

Your search for a product on any of the websites or online stores and you have second thoughts about it and exit the page and keep browsing other things.

Don’t you get to see the same product on other web pages as well?

Well, these are all done using different kinds of systems that are built on the web.

  1. You can show ads to a certain range of people based on age, gender, interests, lifestyle, etc.
  2. You can control your email list.
  3. Opt for an emailing list with a form.

So it is very difficult to be an expert in all the aspects. So you have all these automated options which take care of you. And all this is for you to get customers into your funnel.

Once the customer is in the funnel and makes a sale to him and creates a strong bond.

Personal branding, What makes a brand famous?

Personal brand. What comes to your mind first?

Okay, you might think about Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Warren Buffett. Right?

We want to hear from people not from brands right?

Whenever these mentioned people invest in something those brands come into the picture very soon than any other.

Because they are the best of the best.

It makes the brand they have invested in makes them more trustworthy. Isn’t that right?

The Boring Company, OpenAI, Neuralink. Do you know these brands?

No right? To be honest I didn’t even know them. But when we go and search these on Google we will know that these are owned by Elon Musk.

Now you know who Elon Musk is.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed reading this.

So what did we learn from this? Let’s sum up!

Marketing does not start after the product is manufactured. It starts way before the product is manufactured. As a company, we have to analyze the interest of the public and work on something that is required by them.

Once you have the product you can market the product using different aspects of digital marketing and these aspects are integrated and you could make use of them to market it to the right audience based on the analysis that was done.

It is important that the product is created, reached to the right public at the right time.

Lastly, build your trust among the audience and build a brand of yourself.
